The Empire is frightened

Former Secretary-General of the UN, Boutros Boutros-Ghali is quoted as saying that it took him "some time before I fully realized that the United States sees little need for diplomacy. Power is enough. Only the weak rely on diplomacy… The Roman Empire had no need for diplomacy. Nor does the United States."
Indeed, one of the trademarks of the American Empire has been that it does not negotiate, but rather dictate. It does not request cooperation, but rather demands compliance. It has no real allies or partners – only servants and victims.
But when the servants refuse to serve any more, and the victims fight back… how long can the Empire last?
The angry snarling at Russia is not a display of power. It's a display of fear.

Interesting blog but a tad old-school Marxist in its bipolar Manichean Washington/Moscow view of geopolitics.

Even Chomsky's massive brain sometimes has difficulties distinguishing the shades of grey when analysing the Middle East and he's written the definitive non-specialist analysis, 'Fateful Triangle'.

Neil, why not complicate your dualistic analysis by looking at the power struggle in Lebanon?

The UN reports on the political assassination of Lebanese former PM, Rafik Hariri, by Brammertz and Mehlis (despite the conspiracy theories that unquestioningly adopt the official Syrian line)produce hard evidence that Syrian and Lebanese players were involved, so let's not forget the axis of evil is more like a spoked wheel and Washington/Bush/ the Neo's are not ALWAYS the hub. (I shall throw a hissy fit if someone Trots out Cliche #2 about the shadowy US/Israeli intelligence services, responding simply And Your Point Is?)

Anyways, keep up the good work. Comrade.
