What sort of country allows a convicted hard drugs smuggler to be released on licence after serving just two years in jail and then allows him to march through central London dressed up as a suicide bomber?
That's not being 'liberal'- its being crazy.
The answer is not to send Omar Khayam back to jail but to where all those convicted of dealing in hard drugs should go- to the gallows.

I fail to see how letting a convicted hard drugs dealer out on licence after just two years in jail- and then failing to arrest him for dressing up as a suicide bomber in a city where many people had been killed only a few month earlier by suicide bombers is 'an exemplary demonstration of the effectiveness of our justice system'. It's a demonstration of just how feeble our criminal justice system has become.
Englebert,
If you have ever been spammed by the owner of a sex shop in Atlanta, Georgia, as I have, you would realise that comment moderation is absolutely vital.
And the really annoying thing about that ipsoe was - I live in Glasgow! I can't get to Atlanta!
This blog may now be less 'free' than Harry's Place and Tim Worstall's, but it is as free as David Aaronovitch's blog- comments there also have to be moderated- and decidely more free than Oliver Kamm's and Stephen Pollard. Here's a suggestion Engelbert. Why don't you send an email to the latter pair asking why they don't allow comments at all. Joseph Stalin would surely be proud of them.
