While making enormous profits from the wholesale market, the gas companies are trying to screw the domestic British consumer still further. The answer is not to increase winter payments to pensioners- thereby putting yet more tax-payers money into the coffers of greedy plcs- but to restore public ownership of the gas industry.

A publicly owned gas industry would firstly have no shareholders or fat cat director salaries to pay. It would also benefit from economies of scale, by taking over the other providers. It could also, in addition, do some good deals with Gazprom- we would buy cheaper Russian gas in return for sending back oligarchs like Boris B to stand trial in Russia!
By the way, in case you noticed we did have a pulbicly owned gas industry before the neo-liberal fundamentalists floggged it in the early 1990s- seemed to work ok then....
