Defend Joe Glenton!

video: ady cousins.

Stop the War reports:

Lance Corporal Joe Glenton, the soldier who faces desertion
charges for refusing to return to Afghanistan, has been
arrested and charged with five further offences for leading
Stop the War's demonstration in London on 24 October and for
expressing his opposition to the media in defiance of orders.

The new charges carry a maximum of ten years imprisonment in
addition to the sentence of three to four years that Joe could
get if the desertion charge is upheld.

Joe's mother, Sue Glenton, has spoken out against his arrest:
"You've got government ministers, army commanders and MPs
speaking every day in support of the war. What's so scary
about a Lance Corporal having his say? My son is only speaking
out for what he thinks is right."

Joe's arrest and imprisonment are signs of panic by the government and military commanders, faced with an ever growing majority of the British public opposing the war and an increasing number of prominent voices in the media calling for
the withdrawal of British troops.

Stop the War has organised an EMERGENCY PROTEST at 5pm tomorrow (Thursday 12 November), at the Ministry of Defence, Whitehall (opposite Downing Street). Details of other ways you can help Joe can be found here.

And if you're an anti-war blogger, in the UK or overseas, please do all you can to publicise the campaign to defend Joe. Joe Glenton is not a criminal, he's a national hero. It's the politicians who launch illegal wars which have nothing to do with defending the realm who should be arrested, not the brave soldiers who oppose such conflicts.

@Thomas Byrne

How was it not illegal there was no evidence submitted that Afghanistan had anything to do with 9/11 FBI has not charged Bin Ladin with 9/11 or that the justification for the Iraq war of WMD or links to Al Qaeda most info/evidence provided by the Mossad.

If that were justification for war we would invade ourselves (UK), US, Germany, Israel, France, Turkey and Saudi Arabia.

....Afghanistan is about the size texas, like texas it has no oil, unlike texas it has natural gas, good quality coal and high grade iron ore. It also has deposits of chromium sulphur copper zinc and uranium, all under exploited at the moment. The bank of England's (corporate govt) foot soldiers e.g. the british army are there to facilitate the exploitation of the uranium (steel). The same goes for america the FED (another private bank) runs the (all) government to make money. Venezuela is one of the most mineral rich places in south america. Iran has the second largest oil reserves in the world, that's why the corporate armies are on (or inside) their borders. If you go along with all their proposed arrangements you end up like canada or mexico, totally exploited. You can even exchange drugs for guns and supply them to a dodgy regime. Canada's mineral well is at americas disposal, it is also surrounded by american ports (chimo etc) - just in case, like Iraq will be. You do, however, get the benefit of fast food, fizzy drinks, military bases, and of course a nice debt to the IMF (world bank). What worries me is why they are now bombing Yemen, what are they after, another base on the borders of Iran...? Its going to take a lot of rockets to keep these bankers away form anything valuable (...ask the Sioux or the Apache's) - EVERYTHING else is corn and circus'. Its all about america's effluent society, just like law comes form the end of a gun, injustice comes from the one with the biggest gun. Take little america (Israel) talk about the wild west, west bank robbery, sheriff in their pockets, fleecing rich countries for arms and funding, land grabs all over the place, no regard for any authority, other than their own firepower, reservations for their Indians, and the law is what they say it is (at home or abroad) they should build a fort (or a wall) to keep their Indians out!

Their first rule, which is now universal, is that if they put you in power, or allow you to remain in power, you do as your told, and like Tony, take the money. If not, you are on a wanted poter (Dead or Alive) like Castro, Roldos, Toredos, Chaves, and of course Amadinejad who won't take the money. Saddam, who they put in power, took the money but when he got too big for his boots and went against the "mob", by denying the bankers (bectol) access for their pipeline to Jordan, that sealed his fate, "everything" after that is just smoke and mirrors. South American presidents are usually murdered within months of their election, if they turn the (expenses fee) and the more than generous IMF loan, which puts the bankers in charge of the country, government and of course resources.

(Capitalist shamocracy) The promotion of the sham partly comes from the media, especially those outlets closely connected with government establishment or extreme factions inside the government. With the money involved form the corporations, lobby groups, the financial sector, the media can be pressured into pumping out a stream of propaganda disguised as news. Take the BBC (Big Business in City bankers!) run by the old boys of the establishment, and working in concert with the government, and funded by the very people they control. Constantly making dantes inferno look like disney land, and selling the big lie DOLCE ET DECORUM EST PRO PATRIA MORI.

Marshall.

Thomas Byrne says "Neither of the wars has been illegal". Not quite as authorative opinion as that of the Secretary General of the United Nations, of course, but how does he square this view with the law as defined in the Geneva Conventions, UN Charter and the Rome Statute which declare that war is legitimate ONLY in self defence. BOTH wars were aggressive and initiated by the coalition of the killing.
