Letter of the Week: Peter McKenna on Syria and foreign intervention

A brilliant letter from Peter McKenna from Liverpool, published in The Guardian.

It ill behoves the US to accuse another country of aiding and abetting the massacre of women and children (Houla massacre: US accuses Iran of 'bragging' about its military aid to Syria, 30 May).

The US (and the UK) didn't just aid the killing of women and children in the bombardments of Yugoslavia, Iraq and Libya (and in the genocidal sanctions against the Iraqi population), but was actually directly responsible for it (The US drone campaign is fuelling, not fighting, terror, 30 May). And the particular mode of child-killing which is firmly ascribed to the Syrian regime in the Houla atrocity – via artillery fire into civilian areas – is a particularly brutal means of warfare which was actively supported by the US (and the UK) in Libya as well as in Iraq.

You can read the whole of the letter here.

On the subject of the terrible Houla massacre, do check out this latest Media Lens alert.

There's also a great piece by John Bradley in the Daily Mail which you can read here.

We still don’t know exactly who was responsible for the massacre- but what we do know is that the neo-cons and ‘liberal’ interventionists in the west are trying all they can to use it as an excuse for military action against yet another sovereign state. And we should not be surprised that the current British Government is taking such an aggressive stance.

UPDATE:
Today in Damascus, President Assad has denounced the Houla massacre as an  "ugly crime" that even "monsters" wouldn’t carry out.  More on  the Houla massacre over at Global Research.

Where to begin with the whole Syrian insurgency thing that from the very beginning have support and trained a terrorist insurgency with arms, money and on the ground logistical support who were being trained by NATO in camps in Turkey and recently by the KLA in Kosovo.

They are even using the same propaganda techniques and stories used against the Serbs with the obligatory mass rape story.

Assad’s thugs are raping and impregnating women in Syria

Julia Gorin wrote a good piece on the KLA and the Free Syrian Army.

It is amazing that we still have open terrorist training camps operating in Bosnia and Kosovo.

So it is interesting now that we have a Racak style massacre which will most likely be the hands of some jihadist group to galvanize support and foreign intervention for the insurgency.

Brian: thanks as ever for the links.

Jack: Good to hear from you. Distinct feelings of deja vu this week, it's like 1999 all over again. And of course, very similar to what went on before the Libyan 'intervention' last year too.

I wrote a letter on the same subject comparing this incident with the 100% media censorship of the Dragodan massacre where our "police" (formerly the KLA) were allowed to murder at least 210 people outside the british military HQ in that suburb. By any objective standards - numbers killed; that it was our government not a foreign one; that it happened in peacetime; that it was only one of hundreds of massacres allowed in Kosovo - it should have had far more coverage than Houla, cumulatively perhaps 100 times more. Instead it has been wholly censored.

In fact, so obviously is the BBC&co lying and censoring, as they have done so many times, that President Assad is entitled to the benefit of the doubt until there is any actual evidence from an hionest source, that anything ever happened.

Assads 'thugs' seem to be reported doing what Gadaffis 'thugs were reported doing

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/gaddafi-thugs-rape-children-while-pumped-125043

the similarity of memes suggests a common source

the MSM can pump out lie after lie and know they will never be held to account..as long as its an official enemy

EDWARD BERNAYS: PERCEPTION MANAGEMENT IT IS A REALITY

"The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society,"

"Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country. . . . In almost every act of our daily lives, whether in the sphere of politics or business, in our social conduct or our ethical thinking, we are dominated by the relatively small number of persons . . . who understand the mental processes and social patterns of the masses. It is they who pull the wires which control the public mind."

Hi Brian,
that quote from Bernays says it all doesn't it.
Neil: the media coverage of Kosovo was appalling.

We agree with you Neil Craig. You are correct. There was no massacre. In fact a massacre is huge killing of hundreds of thousands of people by a group or a government. The events over Houla is not a "massacre" like Srebrenica. But that is not it. Even if you disagree with Sabra and Shatila and Srebrenica we already told you above about what a massacre is. And judging by these standards we should never intervene in Syria.
