The Neo-Con rewrite of history (No 675)

"Name me a war between two democracies" asks neo-con writer Daniel Finkelstein in The Times. I can do better than that Daniel. I can name you a war in which twenty countries took part and all of them were democracies. The 1999 NATO war vs Yugoslavia.
Got any other 'difficult' questions.....?

Come off it Neil. How can you call the USA a democracy? It's a one-party state, in which the alternative wings of the War Party take it in turns to govern.

There's also the Israel/Lebanon war last summer.

Oliver Kamm commenting on Finklestein's article wrote:

Nato's intervention in Kosovo in 1999; but they may be discounted. The same people generally describe that intervention as "Nato's war on Yugoslavia" - a fictitious entity - and are in my experience prone to fiasco in their encounter with source material. It was not the worst of the late and unlamented Slobodan Milosevic's sins to rig elections and control the media, but it's a pertinent one in this context.)

Some interesting claims here. First that Yugoslavia was a "fictitious entity" and that Milosevic rigged elections and controlled the media. And there the usual dig at Neil!

All three of Kamm's claim are false:
Yugoslavia was not a fictitious entity, it was an existing country; Milosevic did not 'rig elections and control the media' the elections were free and fair and there was a thriving and well-financed non-government owned media. As for the last stupid jibe- the people who are 'prone to fiasco in their encounter with source material' are not those who exposed the NATO lies in 1999 but the neo-cons who told us that there was 'genocide' taking place in Kosovo and that Iraq possessed WMD.

What about the Cod War between Britain and Iceland? Is Daniel Finkelstein too young to remember that?
