The reality of the surge is this: the number of people displaced from their homes has quadrupled to over 2 million, and detention without trial has risen dramatically (the US alone holds 25,000 prisoners). Another 2 million have fled the country since the occupation began - and about 30,000 have returned, mostly because of lack of cash and visa restrictions. In oil-rich Iraq, electricity is now available in Baghdad for only eight hours a day, half the level before the invasion; unemployment is over 60%; food rations are being cut; corruption is rampant; and 43% of the population now lives on less than a dollar a day.

Ah yes. If only American politics was more like Serbian politics back in the day. Then when one politican and his cronies don't like the election results, they can refuse to recognize them and carry on regardless.
And if American forces used the same policies as at Srebrenica, the insurgency in Iraq would soon be over! Then the hard work of tendering the contract to dig all those mass graves would begin!

Please try to be more coherent when you post. Neil was commenting on the failure of the surge in Iraq. If you feel the need to bash Serbs then at least wait until the discussion turns to Kosovo.
He mentioned the 'myth' surrounding Milosevic's involvement in genocide.
Besides, not wanting to sound remotely in agreement with Neil, but the 60% unemployment in Iraq is worringly similar to the 40% unemployment in Kosovo and the only thing the two have in common is US/UN involvement.
I am so NOT into bashing the US, but even I have to conceed that point.
