UK General Election- The Establishment wins again

My take on the 2015 UK General Election, for RT.com OpEdge.

Football presenter and ex-England international Gary Lineker once joked: “Football is a simple game; 22 men chase a ball for 90 minutes, and, at the end, the Germans always win.” We could say something very similar about general elections in the UK.
They’re a simple game: Lots of parties stand, we have a "democratic" choice, and, at the end, the party favoured by the British Establishment always wins.
The exit poll on Thursday night, which showed the Tories well ahead of Labour (despite all the earlier polls predicting a close-run contest) caused surprise to many, but really we shouldn’t have been too shocked. We've been here before....

I am far from over the moon about the outcome of the election, being torn between Lib-Dems and Labour.

This article, however, is just looking for excuses.

The truth is that no party ran a good campaign. The Tories only talked about how to save money, Labour only talked about how they would spend money. We heard very little, if anything about how the UK would make money.

The 4 daily national newspapers who came out against the Tories do not represent a tiny minority-- there are only 8 daily newspapers which anyone reads.

The BBC is constantly under fire for its alleged left-wing bias, so it smacks of desperation to complain about pro-Tory bias as influential in the outcome of the election. I have not sensed much bias, apart from anti-UKIP, in the BBC.

I support a PR electoral system, but let's no kid ourselves that it would change too much. It would help second tier parties such as the Lib Dems and UKIP get more seats but parties like the TUSC are simply miniscule.

Interestingly enough, in Poland where I am writing from, the anti-system, anti-establishment figures are arguing in favour of First Past the Post, as opposed to PR.

There was an election. The Tories won. No conspiracies.
