My new piece for RT.com OpEdge
I'm confused. A few weeks ago we were told in the West that people occupying government buildings in Ukraine was a very good thing. These people, we were told by our political leaders and elite media commentators, were 'pro-democracy protestors'.
The US government warned the Ukrainian authorities against using force against these 'pro-democracy protestors' even if, according to the pictures we saw, some of them were neo-Nazis who were throwing Molotov cocktails and other things at the police and smashing up statues and setting fire to buildings.
Now, just a few weeks later, we're told that people occupying government buildings in Ukraine are not'pro-democracy protestors' but 'terrorists' or 'militants'.

I wanted to mention to you that I read your article on RT.com and it's fantastic! You mention all the things I've been trying to bring to light to others. So much of this is being misrepresented in the American media. I wish your piece could be provided to EVERYONE so that they understand the double-standards being applied to this situation!

SLAVIANSK, April 16 (RIA Novosti) - The personnel of six armored transport vehicles sent to the eastern Ukrainian city of Kramatorsk have switched sides and have joined the pro-federalist activists, witnesses told RIA Novosti on Wednesday.
"We found them at a square near the railway station. A group of women surrounded them, we started telling them we were peaceful residents who are just fighting for their rights and that there are no terrorists here," the witness said, adding: "They won't shoot us."
"The main armored transport vehicle had a Russian flag on it and they left together with our [protesters] towards Slaviansk," the witness said.

Brilliantly written! At last, a voice that clearly asks the questions that have confounded me of late.
The aggression being shown by the western powers has been shockingly blatant over the last decade or so. Thank you Neil for highlighting so many points, so eloquently.
they control more than you think so they can write the narrative,a look at the predictive pattern, there is a pattern of control in the stock market. now before you dismiss it audiosex.pro is an audio music site you may have heard of it,,not porn
it is how they control the market

one of the guys on the site has shown us how you can see the pattern using a program called

Brilliant. Perfectly encapsulating the paradox of policy right now. And I have just had 'light-bulb moment'.You know what this is? It's DOUBLETHINK. Classic doublethink, and no, I don't think the 1984 allusion is inappropriate in this context. Simultaneously holding and believing in two mutually contradictory thoughts. And we're expected to do the same, apparently.
The GoldMorgs, the few wallstreets financial elite families rule the USA and NL and to some extent the EU.
The GoldMorgs posess or otherwise rule the newspapers and tv-channels. So the GoldMorgs rule what and who the public knows and vote. That is why the politicians go on their knees for the GoldMorgs and serve the GoldMorgs in every imaginable way. It is almost impossible for other politicians to get into and stay in the congress. Disobidient Kennedy was shot in public, an intimidation to every politician.
The GoldMorgs destroy nations and next buy everything for a scratch price after the destruction. The GoldMorgs want to rule Russia. The Afghan heroin tsunami is one dirty war. Now the GoldMorgs want twenty million refugees from Ukrain to flood Russia. That is also a dirty war. And the GoldMorgs also for now want to block the EU paying Russia for oil and gas.

As Russian I would like to say thank you Niel for your clear mind vision of this situation. There is so much lies around this problem these days, it's great to see that there is still some of true journalists who can analyze all this by themselves and not only relying on westernized rhetoric, and hatred to the Russian people.
Wow! You are unbelievable piece of shit!

That is because the EU wants the whole Ukraine, but not a part of it. President of Ukraine, Yanukovich, rejected the agreement about "association" of Ukraine with EU. The new government has already partially signed it. This is a real annexation without even asking for the people's opinion.

Dear Neil,
It's great, thank you so much for this article.

Thank you very much for the article. That's exactly what I was thinking about, but missed many points you brought up. There were only few articles lately, that sounded true. Thank you, again, for one of them :)
Very well said, Mr Clark. It is a relief to read a sane and rational article about Ukraine after all the drivel from Sikorski, Lucas and similarly twisted and bitter Twitteratti. Thank you.
Regarding the whining about Crimea's referendum, I would suggest that the Falklands is another good analogy - a military presence, a one-sided result, and possibly more than a few fascists upset at the outcome, but the usual suspects never claim that the Falklands vote was illegitimate.
I can help. I don't know re Iran, USA, NATO and Jobbik, but clearly re Russia. I'm russian nationality, born in East Ukraine, and every 2 years from childhood had rest and visit friends in Crimea. Currently Crimea boundaries is closed, and by fact Crimea is russian military base and usurpatted by russian troops... Or annexed, call it as you want, but after that Do you still have doubt who is AGRESSOR?

Dear Neil. Thank you for your honest article which I can show my English friends and they would be less confused:)) best rewards, Victoria Proud to be Russian
Dear Neil, you cannot even imagine how many people reposted your honest article with appreciation. Thank you from all Russians. Best regards, Victoria
Dear Neil
I did not believe, that “useful idiots” are at the West. But now I know it.
Your predecessors have justified Stalin's behaving. They share the responsibility for suffering of Russians and Ukrainians as well. And they have not been remorseful and had not begged pardon.
Your way repeats their one.
Alex, Russian
Hi! I don't know if you a real person but nevertheless I'll answer your question.
However first of all I would to underline the difference of the comments here on your blog and on the RT-website, on the latest all people write about fashists and Nazis in Kiev. Did they see any of them ever in their lives???? Me not. I live in the center of Kyiv, the most population in Kyiv speaks Russian, and we have no problem with it. So all the Russians think about us is the work of Russian propaganda!!!
The difference in the protests in January and April you can see here: http://mvasin.org.ua/2014/04/484
Also there are many photos and videos, as for example: http://ru.tsn.ua/politika/zhitelnica-slavyanska-snyala-na-video-zahvata-separatistami-otdela-milicii-360338.html
Is this a peaceful demonstrations for human rights???? Don't you see RUSSIAN SOLDERS who seize the police department in the town of Slaviansk??? I mean, would you like members of foreign army to come to your hometown to seize the town council and the main police department? Would you also it's peaceful demonstration???
Thank you for the great question. Have just left my comment on RT.com Really impressed. Just wondering if anyone can help you and everyone who has same questions and concerns?
Chernovtsy, Ukraine
Good article and clever point of view, thanks!
I'm laughting about the Anonimous post here:
" I'm russian nationality, born in East Ukraine, and every 2 years from childhood"
Typically russians don't say "russian nationality", only "russian". "Born in East Ukraine" - it looks strange too, because no one can say, how many regions are in "East Ukraine", unlike the 5 regions of West Ukraine. And "every 2 years" looks strange too, because in post-soviet countries regular people rest - once a year... although about "nationality" and "East Ukraine" are more relief.
Thank you, Neil!
This is the best article i ve read about situation in Ukrain.. so logical.. so true.. i wish to ask all politicians i USA and EC///. to answer these questions.. SUPPORT U // and ur opinion//)))
Hello Neil... hope re u well... just wanted to say.. that this is the best article i ve ever read ... and glad that people understand now this DOUBLE standard.. i support ur opinion.. it's awful when people are fobbiden speak their own native language.. and they don t have another way as to protest it..

In the times of intensive information war it’s quite hard to tell aggressor from victim.
Judging from the previous comments, some Ukrainians themselves tend to be fooled into thinking that Russia is the only aggressive party to this conflict whereas, from real politics prospective, there is at least one more missing - the United States. Following this logic, the real challenge in this situation is to prevent the division of Ukraine and the waging of civil war within the nation.
I talk as a Russian being born in the city on the boarder with Ukraine and Belarus. The Ukrainians are not just a notion to me - they are real people made of flesh and skin. That is why I wonder that may be now it's high time for them to realise that blaming on the others turns them into a victim and in this position they will hardly be able to define their own destiny. Acting like a victim is convenient but in the long term it’s not that smart - have a look at the Baltic states.
As for this piece, I want to thank you, Neil, for trying to shed some light on current developments. I don’t think that there has been a better way to do it rather than naming some blatant contradictions of what the US have said and done. And thank you once again for your courage to go against mainstream opinion.
I thing, I can help you: the story is not about buildings at all. You just need to investigate deeper.
Dear Neil! I'm a simple housewife from Kharkov (Eastern Ukraine). It is really important for us to hear such fair, impartial point of view. Me and other "pro-russian protesters" want to thank you for the work you do!
Dear Nick, thank you so much for writing "I'm confused, can anyone help me?". It makes a massive difference to finally hear a fair, objective and non-biased opinion. Thank you again from the bottom of my heart which is aching for what is going on in Ukraine but more so for what and how things are being highlighted in the media.
I'm telling thank you for the truth from all Ukrainians!!!
You see, Nail, some people just don't wanna see the difference, they don't need a truth... they are confused. Look at the pictures of the people of Maidan... I love those faces. They came there because they had enough. Enough of lies, corruption and so on and on and on.
Look at those who take over the government buildings in Crimea (and now in Eastern Ukraine). They don't even want to show their faces. They are not actually people. They are special forces. Russian special forces. But I'm sure you don't see the difference.
You don't see any Russian bases around US? Really? Oh you probably just forgot about Caribbean crisis and Russian ballistic missiles on Cuba.
Or may be you won't be so confused with numbers?
Let me refresh you a bit. There is nothing new (for Russia) in Ukraine and Crimea story.
Before they had Transnistria (730000 population before 1989. Now about 500000)
South Ossetia... 99000 population before Russian invasion. Now about 50000.
Abkhazia 525000 before Russians came. Now - 24000.
Ukraine is next. But I'm sure you don't see the difference.
Just look at the video on this page:

Dear Neil, thank you for a sane abd refreshing view on this issue.
I can't help but note that your article was published on RT and re-posted on various blogs on the Net. What a pity!
Also, in relation to your comment on lack of condemnation of Al-Qaeda in Syria, from memory, when USSR was fighting a war in Afghanistan in late 70-s, Al-Qaeda was supported by the West. It took less than thirty years for this support to come back to haunt them. I wonder, how long it would take this time around, as history tends to repeat itself? And how much it would cost us?
Thanks a lot fort he truth!
We - Russians living in the UK feel sad and powerless listening all this Anti-Russian propaganda on BBC!
Every fact about latest crisis in Ukraine is twisted and turned upside down!
Sadly English speaking people in the UK believe everything BBC and other media says. They never heard other part of the story.
Media should inform people what is happening in the World. In fact they spread exasperation and mistrust!

You're a modern day hero. You made my day anyway. I've been trying so hard to break through a brick wall of stubbordness, russophobia, ignorance, stupidity and overall lack of interest. Sometimes I feel like giving up but that's exactly what they want now isn't it? No, I'll keep on writing in newspapers and chatsites and facebook. The truth MUST prevail.

I'm french, and when I'm listing to the european common discourse, when I'm looking at the french foreign Policy, I'm confused too : are we really completely irresponsable ?
Well, I'm taking up Russian again. For my crimean hollidays, this summer...
Thank you, Mr Clark !
I only guess if european and american autorities will give people true information of what has happened the 2th of May in ukrainian city Odessa. In oficial sourses they say there were 46 people burnt and killed there, but there are other information about more then 160 people. They were first killed than burnt. There are some photos, text in russian but it isn't a problem to translate it, is it? The world must know about atrocity of new fascists from Ukraine - the members of organization called The Right Sector. http://ru-cprf.livejournal.com/2241539.html
