Why Washington hates Hugo Chavez

Washington hates Chavez because he's raised living standards for the poor. (and because he won't bow to the giant corporations) That's why he's pilloried in the media, because his socialist model of democracy doesn't jive with America's slash and burn-style of capitalism. Chavez has enacted land and oil industry reform, improved education and provided universal healthcare. He's introduced job training, subsidies to single mothers, drug prevention programs, and assistance for recovering addicts. Venezuelans are more educated than ever before. Illiteracy has been wiped out.

Chavez's policies have reduced ignorance, poverty, and injustice. The list goes on and on. Venezuelans are more engaged in the political process than anytime in the nation's history. That scares Washington. US elites don't want well-informed, empowered people participating in the political process. They believe that task should be left to the venal politicians chosen by corporate bosses and top-hat banksters. That's why Chavez has to go. He's given people hope for a better life.

I take this with a very big pinch of salt.

If Chavez was such a good guy, why would he support a dictator like Robert Mugabe? That indicates severely impaired political judgment.

Looking at your profile, Steve, I would prefer to take anything YOU say with a pinch of salt.

Chavez offered 'moral and political support' to Mugabe's refusal to bow down to US power, not for his dictatorial stance or his management of the economy.

It would be good to know statistical information and there sources of what Chavez accomplished during his reign as president.

Perhaps, the fact that Chavez has been democratically elected by his people should be proof enough that he is doing a good job. Another important indicator is that the US is trying to get rid of him. Compare with other Latin American countries whose mafioso presidents are being kept in power by the US, should be a no brainer, surely............

well Steve,Robert Mugabe is no dictator..what he is is a ndefender of the natuve zimbabwean in the face of neocolonialism of whites like yourself.
Youd be lucky if you had any moral judgement to impair

Robert Mugabe Quotes
"The land is ours. It's not European and we have taken it, we have given it to the rightful people... Those of white extraction who happen to be in the country and are farming are welcome to do so, but they must do so on the basis of equality."

Carlos the Jackal is not a terrorist, Idi Amin was not a monster and "World in Action" did not make a documentary more than thirty years ago exposing his blood stained regime. Chavez also considers these gentleman misunderstood as misunderstood.

The famines in areas where the people do not support Mugabe are pure coincidence, more blacks than whites have not died under his regime and his bodyguards assault of Peter Tatchell did not happen.

Some people like Chavez can believe or forget anything. Mugabe has given the land to his supporters like the British monarchs of long ago. At least there are no American bases in Zimbabwe though (unlike around 140 other countries) and that can make everything forgivable for some.

Rather amusingly a couple of websites consider a surprisingly good article on Cuba in "The Spectator" by an author whose name escapes me as a sell out (http://www.spectator.co.uk/essays/all/514326/castroandx2019s-cuba-was-no-place-for-a-socialist-like-me.thtml). So I am in rather good company.

Mugabe is a genocidal murderer, a racist, and a thief. Frankly, Zimbabweans don't need aid, they need pictures of their government and some guns.

Brian, if you're down on white people (assuming that Steve is, which I notice you do), go ask an Ndebele person how many of their people he liberated from their lives.

stephen gowans latest on the economic strife caused by US sanctions:

http://gowans.wordpress.com/2010/08/21/us-senator-comes-clean-on-zimbabwe-sanctions/

thats right...a US senator has admitted that US sancions are the cause of zimbabwes economic woes.

Brightonian,...Idi Amin was a US client and aided by Israel... Mugabe in comparison is a real and independent african hero...thats why people likie you attack him.

also:
from a comment in that article:
'Frankly, as a white American living in Harare, I very quickly got sick and tired of listening to you privileged white farmers moaning and groaning about the evil Robert Mugabe. One woman looked me straight in the eye, and with a hatred I’ve seldom seen in this world insisted that Mugabe was the devil incarnate. You work yourselves into a frenzy because for the first time in your lives you’re ending up on the short end of the stick, and that simply can’t be right, can it?

I also noticed that you constantly assert your identity as Zimbabweans. You are not Zimbabweans, you are Rhodesians. Just because your country ceased to exist does not mean you can claim a stake in what came after, you have to earn it. I have spoken to the few whites who have accepted a place as equals in Zimbabwe. They stood in lines with everybody else, waited in the heat of the sun for days with everybody else, and when it was their fair turn, put their names down on those long lists of people waiting for their fair share of the land that has been and is still being redistributed. And you know what? Despite all the hatred, despite all the nasty tricks, they were awarded land like everybody else. They are Zimbabweans, no matter their color.'

take the case of Marty: 'Mugabe is a genocidal murderer, a racist, and a thief. Frankly, Zimbabweans don't need aid, they need pictures of their government and some guns'

genocide murderer and thief...HMM youre projecting white guilt! after all what did the white invades under Rhodes do...
http://www.swans.com/library/art8/elich004.html

And so its no surprise your calling for... genocidical murder! Right marty? Thank God CDE Mugabe is not what you show yourself to be: a white racist of the sort who invaded the country and took the land, pushing out the native people. Under Mugabe, Zimbabwe has made gerat strides that South africa has never made: to ensure black citizens are given back their patrimony...

Hmm..like brutal white colonial land thieves? Whose forgetting, brightonian!

Land in zimbabwe goes to those who need it...not to foreign investors, and dont-you-know-who-we-are washed whiter than white UNsettlers find themselves treated like other zimbabweans
