Basically a hostel, but must have been cheap to run.
It could easily be used by MP's, and furthermore if they had to live in Hackney they may realise that Britain has real problems of its own. You don't need to invade Iraq to see a bit of shooting and drama.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17766817.post-9399435280794413262008-02-04T11:52:00.000+00:002008-02-04T11:52:00.000+00:00'n': that's a 'capital' idea in more ways than one...'n': that's a 'capital' idea in more ways than one!Neil Clarkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10479041156190090119noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17766817.post-31291669019590430272008-02-04T09:13:00.000+00:002008-02-04T09:13:00.000+00:00slapheads: So build them a hostel in London.slapheads: So build them a hostel in London.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17766817.post-12386240489263259292008-02-04T07:12:00.000+00:002008-02-04T07:12:00.000+00:00Not always easy to keep other people's money. For instance, only 5% of Britons own a second home, yet for MPs, who receive taxpayers funding to enable them to keep a house or flat in London, it is almost de rigeur.

Well, most jobs don't require you to live hundreds of miles away and pay close attention to what's going on locally - and also attend regular meetings in the London head office (and publish your attendance at said meetings, what's more!).

And I suspect most jobs that do insist on these arrangements would offer similarly generous subsidies, if they want to have a hope of retaining their staff. And I also suspect that in almost any other circumstances, you'd express outrage if such an offer wasn't on the table.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
